We will soon be approaching the dog days of summer, and it's important to keep in mind how dangerous the extreme heat can be on our pets.

Ryan Bragg, a veterinarian at BluePearl Vet, said, "If you notice your dog slowing down their pace, seem unsteady on their feet or are weak those are signs of heat stroke."

Other signs of heat stroke in dogs include:

  • Panting
  • Dehydration
  • Excessive drooling
  • Increased body temperature - above 103° F (39° C)
  • Reddened gums and moist tissues of the body
  • Production of only small amounts of urine or no urine
  • Rapid heart rate
