KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There was a ray of sunshine in the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot ahead of Sunday's game despite the rain and chilly temperatures.
Nobody seemed to mind considering the raging case of Mahomes Fever breaking out across Kansas City.
Second-year Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the talk of the NFL, so it's a no-brainer he's also the talk of Arrowhead tailgates.
"This guy is awesome," Andrew Escutia said. "He's 'Showtime,' right?"
Chiefs fans are practically delirious about the franchise's future led by Mahomes.
"The kid is going to be the best in the league," Joey Burkholder from Olathe said. "(Tom) Brady is on the tail end of his career, we got (Ben) Roethlisberger on the tail end of his career. I think Mahomes is going to lead the NFL."
Mahomes only turned 23 last month, but he's already a fan favorite, especially after leading a stirring fourth-quarter comeback Monday in Denver.
"He holds onto the football, doesn't give it away," Escutia said. "Crazy amount of touchdowns so far this year, the guy is insane."
Fans are praising coaches on selecting the Texas native.
"We drafted him. We moved up in the draft to get him and this is it. This is our future," said Burkholder.
And that he holds part of the key to victory.
"You see it right in Mahomes. The things he can do, you don't know when he's going to do it and what he's gonna do. He's just fantastic," said Belton native and life-long Chiefs fan, Charlie Dalzell.
