KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Ice and snow-covered sidewalks and streets are creating a challenge for local business owners.

Beer Kitchen has seen a noticeable decline in lunch traffic following recent freezing rain.

The manager, Cory Puckett, told 41 Action News that ice is far worse than snow when it comes to the impact on customers.

"It affects the flow a little because people don't get out as easily; they're afraid to drive. I've seen a little bit of a drop," said Puckett.

Just down the street from Beer Kitchen sits Teadrops. General manager Tai Nguyen expects fewer customers when the streets are slick.

"It's mother nature, for that we experience quite a bit of downtime," said Nguyen.

On the other end of the spectrum, teens and families headed to the movie theater in North Kansas City to take advantage of the day off. Emma Hessefort took her little brother to see a movie on her snow day.

"The movies is the best thing to do. It takes up so much time and I don't have to entertain him," said Hessefort.

Experts encourage businesses to focus on their online customers on days when customers can't get to their location.
