Picasso. Whether you love art or not; know about art or not; care about art or not, you know the name.

But, where did this most influential and inspirational artist of the 20th century find his influences and inspiration?

Africa, among many other places in the world.

When a 25-year-old Picasso walked through an exhibition of African Art at The Trocadero, it changed his vision.

Now through April 8, we all have a chance to see things Through The Eyes of Picasso at the Nelson-Atkins.

The Wall Street Journal chose the display as one of the best art exhibits in the nation for 2017.

In addition to seeing the original African masks and sculptures that Picasso turned into his masterpieces, we see how he lived and created.

There is a replica of his final studio and black-and-white photos that put you into Picasso’s space.

That theme is continued this Saturday, with a screening of a film called The Mystery of Picasso, in which we see the man at work.

More than anything, according to Chief Curator Catherine Futter, this display shows us a person who never stopped learning and creating.

And, while we may not be Picasso, we, too, can continue to learn and create.
