KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Top 20 is great, and top 10 is even better!
But, for Bob Kendrick and the rest of the team at The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, they’re aiming for number one!
As of March 5, when online voting ended, the NLBM was number one on USA Today’s Best Attraction for Sports Fans list.
This is a list that includes places like the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, the Baseball Hall in Cooperstown, and The Track at Indy.
For Kendrick, this is an acknowledgment of the important role the Negro Leagues have played, not just on the field, but also in society.
And, while the museum does revere the past, in keeping with Satchel Paige’s advice, “Don’t look back, something might be gaining on you,” they are always moving forward.
For example, there is a new app you can use at the museum to turn your phone into a tour guide.
The final results of USA Today’s list will come out on Friday, and we will find out if our amazing hometown museum once again makes national headlines.
Whatever the final number, somewhere, Buck O’Neil is smiling and singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame!”
