KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Charvarius Ward's goals are simple this season.

Coming off the team's Super Bowl win, Ward said his next goal is becoming the best cornerback in the league.

“Honestly, I feel like I can be one of the best young corners in the game, as long as I just keep believing in myself and having confidence in myself off the field and on the field, I mean, the sky is the limit for me. So, I feel like I’m going to be one of the best young corners in the game this season. I’m going to earn my respect this year," Ward said.

It's a bold statement, but coming off Ward's championship season, his goals aren't out of reach.

Last season, Ward started every game and led the Chiefs cornerbacks in pass breakups.

“Instead of batting the ball down this year, I’m going to a two-hand, try and hop on the ball, get an interception, just trying to make turnovers and get the ball back to Pat, Tyreek, Sammy and Travis and all those guys so they can score more points, so that’s one of my key areas to focus on this year is turnovers," Ward said.

Supporting Ward as he works to reach each goal is his teammate Tyrann Matheiu. Ward said the All-Pro safety is always in his corner.

“He’s one of my biggest supporters, from day one he was always telling me, like, 'I know you can play corner, you’ve got the size, you’ve got the ability, you just got to know the mental part of the game,'" Ward said.

Not giving up touchdowns, challenging every throw and forcing turnovers is what Ward said he has to do every week of the season in order to become that lockdown cornerback.
