KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Lots of things will look different for the Kansas City Chiefs' 2020 season, including the 29th anniversary of Red Friday.

In fact, it won't be on a Friday at all. Instead, the Chiefs announced it will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 9, with a special "Kickoff Edition."

The event usually takes place on the Friday before a Chiefs game, but this year the season opener is on Thursday, Sept. 10, against the Houston Texans.

Red Friday gives fans a chance to buy a limited edition Chiefs flag from McDonald's restaurants all around the Kansas City metro and the St. Joseph area for a minimum donation of $5.

The proceeds of the flags go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City.

Last year, the event raised more than $500,000, according to the team.

Other events that will take place during the week leading up to the season opener include "Super Bowl championship branding throughout the city, including paintings near prominent local landmarks; light, fountain and statue displays," the team said.

For people who don't feel safe purchasing a flag in-person, they can order one online for an additional $5 shipping fee.
