KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson have been the storyline leading up to Monday night’s Chiefs-Ravens matchup — even though the two will never be on the field at the same time.

However, Mahomes and Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters will face off on-field at M&T Bank Stadium.

Mahomes was a rookie when Peters played for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017.

“I knew he had the talent. I knew he loved the game, so that’s two ultimate things that can help you, and like I said, I just respect somebody who loves the game of football like he does,” Peters said.

The following year, Peters was traded to the Los Angeles Rams and the two teams met on Monday Night Football in what became a shootout. Mahomes threw six touchdowns but was picked off once by Peters.

Meeting once again, Peters told reporters Thursday, he knows what he's going up against.

“He’s a Super Bowl champ, you know, he’s the MVP of this league,” Peters said. “He’s a hell of a player and a guy like that, you just have to respect his game.”

The Chiefs and Ravens met once last season, with the Chiefs coming out on top, 33-28.

Heading to Baltimore, with no fans allowed in the stadium, the match-up will look and feel much different.

Thursday, Mahomes said the Chiefs are preparing for what Jackson and the Ravens offense can do.

“As an offense, you know that you're facing a great defense, and so you have to find ways to put up points on the board if you want to get the win,” he said.

Head coach Andy Reid said the Chiefs “respect” the Ravens and “know they’re a good football team.”
