KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs made several great plays Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, but the fourth-quarter two-point conversion still stands out.

Patrick Mahomes added to his highlight reel, threading a pass between five defenders to wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. to tie the game at 17-17 one play after an incredible 54-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill.

“The throw was unbelievable to Tyreek," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "Then, coming back we had a couple different options on that, Mecole being maybe third or fourth in the options. The fact that Mecole stayed alive in there and was able to find a spot and could even see the ball and then make the catch in that traffic was something. And for Pat to find him was something."

Mahomes discussed the play in detail Thursday, noting that Hardman wasn't the intended receiver at the snap.

"We had a play called with a little kind of either a shovel pass or I roll out the throw to Clyde (Edwards-Helaire)," Mahomes said.

But the Chargers' defense unnerved Mahomes right before the snap.

"They said watch for the shovel pass," he said. "I knew that there was a good chance that (defensive end Joey) Bosa was going to come down on that. Before the snap, even in the huddle, we were kind of reviewing the play, I had told Mecole and Tyreek, I said, ‘I know you aren't really in the read. You’re kind of last read, but make sure you will continue to work.’ So, those guys did a great job and then I thought Mecole made a heck of a catch on a ball that was thrown low and away on him. He made a great play on it.

The Chiefs, who next play at the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football, went on to win 23-20 in overtime and improve to 2-0 this season.
