KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Things are falling into place for Patrick Mahomes.

In a whirlwind year that has already included a Super Bowl championship, a mega contract and an engagement, the Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback and his fiancée, Brittany Matthews, announced Tuesday they are expecting their first child.

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Mahomes called it an “extremely exciting” time.

"Being able to kind of grow up and have these dreams of having a family and playing in the NFL, and for that have stuff to start happening and really coming into truth and everything like that, it’s really cool," Mahomes said. "I’m just excited that I have a lot of great people around me and I’m in a great organization and I’m able to live out these dreams day by day."

Though it will be a while before the newest Mahomes makes his or her appearance, the Chiefs quarterback has already put some thought into which of his teammates would make the best babysitter.

The verdict? Probably backup QB Matt Moore, whom Mahomes called “responsible” when asked the question on Wednesday.

But tight end Travis Kelce probably shouldn’t expect a call.

“I can't let Trav or anybody do it,” Mahomes said with a smile. “You never know what would happen.”
