KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Over the weekend, thousands assembled in Kansas City at the Country Club Plaza to protest racial injustice against African Americans.

On Monday, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes released a statement on Twitter concerning the recent deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery, along with racial inequality.

“As I have watched everything over the last week and even before then, I’ve tried to put my feelings into words,” Mahomes wrote.

In his statement, the Super Bowl LIV MVP wrote that with a black father and white mother, “I have been blessed to be accepted for who I am my entire life, but that isn’t the case for everyone.”

Mahomes called the recent murders “senseless,” saying the country should learn to operate like a locker room, where he said everyone is accepted.

“We all need to treat each other like brothers and sisters, and become something better,” Mahomes said.
