MIAMI — He’s been the voice of the Kansas City Chiefs for more than a quarter-century.

He hosts weekly "Minute With Mitch" segments seen right here on 41 Action News.

And it’s safe to say Chiefs radio play-by-play announcer Mitch Holthus often speaks for all of Chiefs Kingdom, especially as he reflects on the Chiefs capturing the Lamar Hunt Trophy.

“To win that game last week to get here, it was so deep," Holthus said. "As I said on air, the team that Lamar Hunt founded has just won his trophy in his stadium.”

Holthus calls that a redefining moment for the Kingdom.

“This now team is becoming an international team because of Mahomes," Holthus said. "This is a team that the world wants to love and, so because of that, a bigger sense is they look at Kansas City. They look at the city itself. I know people who have moved here because of this.”

If the Chiefs win Super Bowl LIV, expect Chiefs Kingdom and Kansas City to grow even more in size, but Holthus believes it’ll be tough to top Arrowhead’s greatest moment even if they take home the Lombardi Trophy.

“1AA would be winning the Super Bowl LIV championship, but, Kevin, let me be very honest with you, that will feel incredible," Holthus said. "But not far behind would be winning that AFC Championship, only because of what it meant for the Hunt family and to all of the Kingdom — to win int at Arrowhead, to get that trophy.”

Holthus said that memory will be forever etched in the minds of every Chiefs fan.

“There have been some prayers and some thoughts and God doesn’t care who wins all right, but I do think he shines favor," Holthus said. "This team’s unique. This moment is unique and you just want to capture every fiber of it.”
