KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The team with more experience playing in the AFC Championship Game has won based on recent NFL history.

Perennial Super Bowl contenders, the New England Patriots, beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-20 during the 2017 season.

One year later, the Patriots beat the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime 37-31 in the first AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium to cap the 2018 season.

The Chiefs bounced back during the 2019 season to beat the Tennessee Titans 35-24 en route to winning Super Bowl LIV.

Now, the Chiefs face the Buffalo Bills at 5:40 p.m. Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium in their third straight AFC Championship game.

"I’m honored that we’re able to play in front of our home crowd, and I know they’ll be out of their minds and help lead us on through this game," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "So, again, much appreciated all the fan support."

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes' availability after being knocked from the AFC Divisional win against Cleveland and entering the NFL concussion protocol will weigh heavily into which team is favored Sunday.

But if he's able to play, the Chiefs are well positioned to get the win based on recent AFC Championship Game results.
