Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is still unemployed despite being arguably the best available free agent out there.
It's highly unlikely for the Chiefs to draft him considering the financial commitments Kansas City has with Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs however, don't have any significant NFL experience when it comes to the back-up QB position.
Smith and Kaepernick have a history together. They were teammates in San Francisco.
Kaepernick eventually forced Smith to the number two spot on the depth chart and ultimately on to Kansas City.
One would assume the incident would leave Smith bitter, but he has nothing but respect for Kaepernick and is as surprised as anyone else that Kaepernick has yet to land on his feet and secure an active NFL roster spot.
