"Your Wife Is Hot." It's a billboard that packs a lot of mystery with only four words.

Chances are you've seen it in three different places around the Kansas City metro area: Interstate 670 westbound in Kansas City, Kansas; 39th & Wornall in Waldo and along Interstate 35 near Cambridge.

If you've ever wondered what it means, you're not alone.

Here's what some average Kansas City drivers guessed:

"It's probably, like if some guy wants his wife to be hotter, this is someone saying your wife is hot the way she is," said one shopper at the Legends Outlets.

"The woman that you are with is beautiful no matter what she looks like," a group of young women said. "That just reminds you not to cheat on her."

Several shoppers took good guesses, but none of them seemed to hit the mark.

So, what's the real answer?

Here's a hint: don't think so hard. The meaning is pretty literal.

"Well, right now I guess she's not hot, but in the summertime when the weather kicks up, then your wife is hot, meaning your air conditioner could be broken," said Bob Hamilton. "So if your air conditioner is broken, you need to 'better call Bob.'"

Bob Hamilton's Plumbing, Heating, A/C and Rooter in Overland Park first used the billboard about four years ago.

"I saw it years ago. It was in a magazine. It wasn't a billboard. It was a carrier ad and it just said something about "your wife is hot" and I thought, I'm going to do that," he said.

The idea briefly left the business owner until a St. Patrick's Day parade.

Hamilton's company had a float in the parade and he remembers his son joking around and yelling at people, "Hey, your mom is hot!" That's when he remembered the billboard.

Similar versions can be spotted in cities around the country from other heating and air companies, but Hamilton came up with the idea to omit the name of his business.

"When we first did it, we did it without a company name and just put "Your Wife Is Hot" because it creates buzz. People don't know what that really means. It gets keeps them wondering."

Hamilton says the billboards are scheduled to change on May 1 to reveal who you "better call" to get your air conditioning ready for the summer. They will stay up until August.
