KANSAS CITY, Kan. — In his first moments as Governor of Kansas, Jeff Colyer knows he is facing stiff competition to stay in office. More than a dozen people are campaigning for Governor of Kansas.

Lenexa Businessman Greg Orman is running as an independent. He said he believes people are tired of party politics and they're ready to choose a candidate who is able to focus on the job and not pleasing party leaders

“I think being an independent really liberates need to serve Kansas in ways that no other governor can. As an independent, I’ll be able to get the best and the brightest people in my administration to serve Kansas,” said Orman.

The gubernatorial candidate spoke to a group of friends and family at Combat Brands, a Lenexa company Orman said he and his business partners rescued from the brink of failing and turned it around to become a thriving business. He said he wants to do the same thing for Kansas.

Next week, Orman will take his campaign message on the road across Kansas asking people to vote for him in November to be the next Governor of Kansas.
