Cassie Wilson

KSHB

Meteorologist

Cassie Wilson started at KSHB 41 in December 2022, but she is no stranger to Kansas! She’s a proud graduate of The University of Kansas and obtained a B.S. and M.S. in Atmospheric Science with a focus in Hydrology. Before starting her career in broadcasting, Cassie was a research scientist and Ph.D. student at the Nevada State Climate Office housed at the University of Nevada. As an on-air meteorologist, she worked for KWCH in Wichita, Kansas and KRNV in Reno, Nevada.

Cassie has always loved the outdoors and science, and it shows when storms are brewing. She won a Kansas Association of Broadcasters award for coverage of a tornado that hit Andover, Kansas in April 2022. She was storm chasing during the severe outbreak, then spent 16 hours covering the tornado and aftermath. She has presented her scientific work at the international level, co-authored publications in top peer-reviewed journals and is an EMMY award-winning meteorologist.

In her spare time, Cassie is usually out exploring with her son. Becoming a mother is her biggest and most rewarding challenge yet. She loves the Kansas City area and knew it was where she wanted to raise her family. She and her husband are into art, music and food and already have a long list of restaurants to try in town. She also still visits her college stomping grounds often, so you’ll see her wearing crimson and blue in Lawrence.

Cassie’s favorite book is Wild by Cheryl Strayed, her favorite movie is the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and when it comes to music, she’s a huge Lumineers fan. She constantly uses her meditation app to keep her sane and the Peloton app. Be sure to reach out and say hi to Cassie on social media and don’t be shy if you have any questions about the weather!
