KANSAS CITY, Mo. — We're learning more about a motorcyclist killed in a Wednesday morning crash in the Northland.

The Suzuki operator was identified as 21-year-old Levi Lathrop, a 2023 graduate of Liberty High School.

Since January 2025, he worked as a Clay County Sheriff's Office detention officer on the housing floor.

"We are mourning the loss of one of our own," the Sheriff's Office stated on Thursday. "Detention Officer Levi Lathrop, 21, lost his life in a motorcycle crash yesterday morning. Please lift up his family, friends and coworkers in your prayers and thoughts."

At the time of the crash Lathrop was not on duty, nor headed to or from work.

The fatal collision happened along a dead end on Barry Road, past Sam Ray Street.

Upon impact, Lathrop was reportedly ejected across the ramp from southbound I-435 to westbound Missouri Highway 152.
