KANSAS CITY, MO — Some of our earliest memories are in the kitchen with the cook we grew up with. That’s the idea behind what inspired Alicia Hommon to open The Laughing Place Bakery . She joins us in the kitchen to make a delicious pie and share the recipe for her amazing pie crust.
"Alicia's Never Fail Pie Crust"
1-Blend the following together in a food processor just until it becomes like pea-sized pieces, and then place into a medium sized mixing bowl:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 Tbsp Sugar
6 Tbsp Butter
1/2 cup lard
2- In a separate bowl, combine 1 egg yolk, 1/4 cup cold water, and 1/2 tsp vinegar.
3- pour the entire egg mixture over the flour mixture, and stir together with a fork just until all the liquid is incorporated (do not overmix!!)
4- dump contents onto a lightly floured counter top and press together, but do not knead (we want to keep those lovely bits of flour coated fat from melting!)
5- chill the crust if you wish, then roll out to make your pie. Bake and enjoy!!
