KANSAS CITY, MO — This week is National Safe Place week, and Kansas City is one of the many communities across the United States that is raising awareness of safety for the youth in our area. Karen Turner, Safe Place Coordinator for Synergy Services, explains the program designed to help young people in dangerous situations access safe shelter or other assistance. If you are a young person in a crisis, you can go to any of these KC-area Safe Place sites: QuickTrip stores, KC Area Transit Authority buses, and all branches of KC and Mid-Continent public libraries. Staff on site are trained to call Synergy’s 24-hour hotline, and a trained volunteer or staff member is dispatched to the site to provide assistance. The Youth Crisis Hotline phone number is (816) 741-8700.
