Wednesday got off on the right track thanks to the Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA).

The weeklong 46th Annual LCCA Convention runs through July 30 at the airport Hilton.

However, Wednesday’s big event was in a sacred place for train lovers: Union Station.

A beautiful recreation – O gauge compatible, for you aficionados of the station itself – is being unveiled.

This mini-me Union Station, created by nationally known modeler Roger Farkash, will be on display, permanently, after the show chugs out of town.

According to Mike McLintock of the LCCA, trains capture the imagination and can be a life-long obsession.

This week’s show is a chance for long-time fans to be immersed in the model train world and a way for newcomers to be introduced to the hobby.

If you listen closely just outside the replica of Union Station, you can almost hear, “All aboard.”
