KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Looking for a way to celebrate our planet for Earth Day weekend?

How about heading for the sea?

In Kansas City, that means Sea Life at Crown Center and, this Saturday, that means The Sea Life Science Challenge!

Starting at 9:00 a.m., 40 young scientific explorers will be put through a number of environment-based exercises.

This morning, Education Specialist Kristen Bredemeier let us try a couple.

One was trying to do something our friends in the se must do every day: find food in the midst of pollution. In the exercise, we had to create an adaptation to separate good food from non-edible garbage.

On the other end of the spectrum, we created a perfect habitat out of things found in the backyard.

Out of the 40, 12 will be selected to become part of Sea Life’s Environmental Team for the rest of the year, spreading the word about conservation throughout the metro.

This year’s competition is sold out, but you are invited to come on down to cheer on your favorite young scientist and, just maybe, feel a little better about the future of our planet.
