1 dead, 1 injured in south Kansas City shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man was shot and killed Monday at the Park Meadows Apartments in the 8100 block of East 80th Street.

Kansas City, Missouri, police said officers were called to the area just before 3:30 p.m.

When officers got there, witnesses showed them to the man, who has been identified as 23-year-old Chase Byers.

The officers gave first aid until EMS arrived and pronounced Byers dead.

As officers continued their investigation, they found a woman who had been shot in the leg.

She was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She was in stable condition as of Tuesday morning, police said.

Investigators continued to try to determine what led to the shootingTuesday. Police said there was no suspect information, and no one was in custody.
