1 person recovering after overnight NKC QuikTrip shooting

NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is recovering in the hospital after an overnight shooting at the QuikTrip on Armour Road in North Kansas City, Missouri.

According to North Kansas City Police, an off-duty officer heard something going on in the parking lot. The officer began to investigate and heard gunshots. 

As the officer approached the scene, he drew his weapon when a person who was armed refused to drop their weapon.

That officer shot towards the suspect, but that person wasn't injured and was taken into custody.

After the original exchange of gunfire, police said there was a person lying on the ground.

Witnesses picked that person up and sped off, leading police on a chase into Kansas City which ended at an area hospital.

The victim was treated for gunshot wounds and is in stable condition.

Three people are in custody.

The Officer Involved Shooting Team is investigating the incident.
