The Kansas City Area Transport Authority released video Thursday of a violent fight that resulted with two men injured.
By the time a bus on the KCATA’s 57 line makes a stop at 75th and Oak it’s about halfway through it’s trip. But just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, the stop became the final destination for one bus.
Several cameras were rolling when KCATA bus 134 pulled up to the stop. That’s when two passengers, one in the front and another in the back, exchanged words. The video shows the man in the back sprinting to the front and the argument spills onto the sidewalk.
Officials say one man pulled another off the bus and stabbed him in the neck. The man with the neck wound then allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the other man in the ankle.
“He just fell on the ground. He was clutching onto the sign. I was like ‘what is he doing?’,” Teressa Davis, a witness, told 41 Action News.
Within seconds of the crime the bus driver spoted a member of Kansas City police.
“They were honking trying to get the police officer on the motorcycle to slow down to come and see what was happening and I just seen him calling for help,” Davis said.
Paramedics took the men to the hospital. Both are expected to survive their injuries.
The criminal case is now in the prosecutor’s office as charges are pending.
The KCATA says the bus driver is undergoing counseling for the traumatic experience. She’s expected to return to work next week.
