A 16-year-old boy died in a shooting Monday afternoon.
Police said the boy was shot near Truman and Home in Independence, Missouri.
An Independence woman said the victim in Monday's shooting is her son, Javon Reilly.
Jackie Reilly is trying to figure out why someone would kill her youngest son.

"He was a typical teenager," she said. "My son didn't sell drugs, he wasn't out there robbing things. He was trying to get an education.”
The teen was a student at Van Horn High School. Counselors will be available at the school on Tuesday, according to a spokeswoman for the school.
