KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two people are in custody after a pursuit that ended with a truck ramming a Cass County deputy's vehicle early Friday morning.

According to the Cass County Sheriff's Office, deputies were assisting the Harrisonville Police Department in a vehicle pursuit on Interstate 49 northbound near Harrisonville.

A patrol vehicle equipped with a grappler device responded and was able to stop the vehicle after deploying the device on the truck.

The driver fled the truck, but the passenger attempted to drive away. The second suspect was unsuccessful with the grappler still attached and instead put the truck in reverse, ramming into the patrol car with a deputy still in the vehicle.

Both vehicles wound up disabled as a result.

Jeremy T. Box, 44, the driver of the truck, was caught and arrested on multiple Kansas City warrants. He is being held pending charges related to the incident.

Bailey K. Allen, 23, also was arrested on an active warrant for second-degree burglary in Jackson County. He's also being held pending charges related to ramming the deputy's vehicle, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Office.

“The ability to deploy the proper staff, tools, and training to apprehend criminals is essential to our mission to keep Cass County safe," Sheriff Jeff Weber said in a statement on Facebook. "In this case the suspect acted with wanton disregard towards the public and deputies safety."
