1 person killed in double shooting Thursday in Independence

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two people were shot Thursday night in Independence, including one person who later died at a local hospital.

Now, Independence police have launched a homicide investigation.

"One of the subjects who was shot has died," police said on Facebook. "This is now being investigated as a homicide. The second subject is stable and his or her injuries are not believed to be life threatening."

The shooting happened around 6:25 p.m. at a residence in the 18800 block of East Wigwam Place, according Independence Police Department social media accounts.

There was no word on what led to the shooting.
