Belton police investigate pedestrian's death on I-49

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Belton police are investigating a deadly crash on northbound Interstate 49.

According to a post on the Belton Police Department’s Facebook page, officers were dispatched around 9:45 p.m. on Monday to the area of northbound I-49 south of 155th Street.

Upon arrival, officers found a person who had been struck and killed by a passing vehicle.

The victim of the collision was later identified as 33-year-old Tiearra Collins of Grandview, Missouri.

The Belton Police Traffic Unit is investigating the incident and asks anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to call 816-331-1500.

Editor's Note: Initial information indicated the incident was a hit and run. Information Tuesday morning from Belton Police indicated the driver that struck the pedestrian remained on the scene and is cooperating with police.
