KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police say one person died and three others were critically injured Friday morning in a crash along U.S. 169 Highway and NE Englewood Road in the Northland.

Crash investigators say around 9 a.m., a Hyundai Elantra was weaving in and out of traffic in the southbound lanes of the highway when the driver lost control, struck a guardrail and overturned.

It's not clear what caused the driver to lose control.

The front seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The passenger was identified as Kevin Adero, 17.

The driver and two other passengers were transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.

The highway was closed for several hours before reopening around noon.
