KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A former Grandview police officer, who is already serving serving a life sentence for a Cass County murder conviction, was sentenced Friday to an additional 30 years in jail for a separate murder in Jackson County.

Jeffrey Moreland pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Nina Whitley.

She was found dead Oct. 29, 2010, in her south Kansas City home.

Moreland was sentenced to 20 years for the murder conviction and 10 years for the armed criminal action conviction.

He is already serving a life sentence for the murder of Cara Jo Roberts, who was found dead in November 2008 in her Harrisonville home.

Moreland, who was connected to both murders by DNA evidence, was not employed by the Grandview Police Department at the time of either homicide.

He worked from the department from May 1984 until his retirement in June 2005.
