KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Independence police are searching for the driver of a car involved in a shooting outside the Independence Center Monday afternoon.

One person suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in the head in the mall’s parking lot on 39th Street.

Police previously said people in two cars were shooting at each other.

One of those people has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, police said Thursday.

Police know the second vehicle involved was a black Chrysler 300 (pictured) and investigators have contacted the car’s registered owner, but do not know who was driving at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information on who may have been driving the car, or who might have been a passenger, is asked to call police at 816-325-7777 or email them at leads@indepmo.org.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.

The shooting, one of several incidents at the mall in recent weeks, prompted city leaders to instate additional security and extend curfews in the area.

For jurisdictions that utilize the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers Tips Hotline, anonymous tips can be made by calling 816-474-TIPS (8477), submitting the tip online or through the free mobile app at P3Tips.com.
