KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas Bureau of Investigation was called to Junction City after a sheriff's deputy and a police officer returned fire at an armed man who shot at them early Wednesday.

Junction City police and Geary County deputies responded around 2:45 a.m. to the 400 block of West Second Street in Junction City on a domestic disturbance call.

Upon arrival, law enforcement established a perimeter and "called for the female occupant to exit the house," according to a news release. Officers continued to try and make contact with an armed man, who was in the home. Around 3:20 a.m., the man, identified as 70-year-old James March exited the home with a shotgun and fired at police.

One deputy and one officer fired back at Marsh, who was injured.

Marsh was transported to an area hospital and is in "fair condition" after surgery, the release stated.
