Man charged in Pour Boys burglary

Posted

A Kansas City man has been charged in a burglary at the Pour Boys on North Oak Trafficway.

Sean Porter, 23, is charged with second-degree burglary and stealing.

According to the probable cause statement, Kansas City police were dispatched on March 31 to Pour Boys on a reported intrusion alarm. Officers contacted an employee who reviewed surveillance footage with police and said they recognized the person in the video as a man named Sean, who they said often walked to the store.

According to the probable cause statement, the video shows a man wearing a white shirt, white with black stripe shorts and black shoes picking up cigarette butt cans located next to the front doors and dumping them out. The man then walks away. Later, a man wearing the same white with black shorts and black sneakers returned, this time in a red and black hooded sweatshirt.

The probable cause statement says a minute later a piece of asphalt was thrown through a window. The same male entered the store through that window and grabbed several cartons of cigarettes, two bottles of liquor and several lottery tickets. The man ran to the window and then climbed through.

A Pour Boys manager told police the Missouri lottery tickets were reported stolen with the state. The manager received a call saying eight were cashed at a QuikTrip in Kansas City. Police reviewed footage from the QuikTrip and saw a man in black pants, a gray hoodie, white shirt and a red, yellow and black hat with the letters ICP enter the store and hand the clerk lottery tickets.

Kansas City police conducted a residence check for Porter; he had a municipal warrant, according to the probable cause statement. Porter was at a residence and was wearing a black, yellow and red hat with the letters 'ICP' on it, blue jeans and black Nike shoes. Officers advised Porter he was under arrest for a municipal warrant. He was then placed on an investigation for burglary.

The probable cause statement says Porter told police he dumped two cigarette butt cans next to the front doors of Pour Boys. Porter also admitted he was wearing a white shirt, white with black stripe shorts and black sneakers. Police showed him footage of the suspect and Porter denied that it was him, however he admitted the shorts looked similar to the shorts he was wearing. The probable cause statement says police showed Porter surveillance footage of him cashing in the stolen lottery tickets. Porter said it was him. He said he didn’t know the lottery tickets were stolen and that he got them from a friend. Porter denied burglarizing Pour Boys.

Bond is set at $30,000.
