KCMO police investigating overnight homicide

UPDATE, Aug. 14 | The victim was identified as 58-year-old Montez Blake.

ORIGINAL STORY, Aug. 13 | Kansas City, Missouri, police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Thursday morning.

Police were called to Independence Avenue and the Paseo around 1:30 a.m.

Police said a man was found in a field just off Independence Avenue with a gunshot wound and was declared deceased.

No suspect information has been released.

This is the 123rd homicide of the year in Kansas City.
