KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Missouri man is facing charges after he allegedly set his house on fire with his father and wife inside.

Brandon J. West, 37, is charged with first-degree arson.

West is accused of setting a house on fire Tuesday evening at the 4800 block of North Wallace Drive. West's father was injured in the fire.

His father told police that on the day of the fire, he heard a loud bang in the garage and saw West pouring gasoline on the floor. West's father claims his son told him, "I'm gonna burn this [explicative] house down." He also allegedly began ranting about his estranged wife and current girlfriend.

West's father said he then saw his son use a lighter to start the fire. West's father's socks reportedly caught fire, causing him to fall the floor. He was later treated for burns to his feet and right arm.

West's wife was upstairs in the house at the time of the fire. She became trapped in a rear bedroom until neighbors helped rescue her through a window.

A bond has not yet been set.
