KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Tanishia N. Shannon was charged Thursday in the fatal stabbing of another woman last September in the 6600 block of Indiana Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri.

Shannon, 38, allegedly stabbed Ashley Thomas to death after an altercation on the defendant’s front porch.

The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office charged Shannon with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

According to a KCPD probable cause statement, Thomas went to Shannon’s house looking for her brother, who was dating the defendant. An argument and fight ensued, which ended with Shannon stabbing Thomas in the chest, police said.

A witness disputed Shannon’s notion that it was self-defense, saying Thomas had been seated in a chair outside for several minutes after the altercation when Shannon walked outside and stabbed her.

Shannon was arrested earlier this week and is being held on a $50,000 bond.
