KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, police investigated a homicide early Tuesday afternoon near East 44th Street and Prospect Avenue.

According to a KCPD spokesman, police were dispatched to the shooting call right at 11 a.m., when a caller at a car wash reported that a male gunshot victim had arrived in a vehicle.

When emergency medical responders reached the scene, the man was pronounced dead.

Thursday, police identified him as 48-year-old Lavance Ellis.

Shortly before that report, police were already responding to a sound of gunshots near East 44th Street and Park Avenue. Police initially said the gunshots were believed to be connected to the homicide but later said that the incident was unrelated.

Around the same time, police also were dispatched to East 44th Street and South Benton Avenue, where another male shooting victim was found with non-life-threatening injuries. He told police the incident happened at the Park Avenue location.

Detectives determined the second shooting victim also was unrelated to the homicide.

KCPD received a tip that a house in the 4200 block of Prospect Avenue may be connected to the homicide. Police said later Tuesday that "possible suspects" were located in the house.

Anyone with information about this ongoing investigation is asked to call the KCPD Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043 or the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.

This homicide was the second reported on Tuesday in Kansas City. Shortly after midnight, a man was shot in the 400 block of Denver Avenue. He was transported to an area hospital, where he died.
