KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One man is dead and a woman was critically injured in a double shooting Wednesday afternoon, according to the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department.

Officers responding to a call at 3 p.m. in the 8100 block of Lydia Avenue were led by two people at the scene inside a residence, where the two gunshot victims were found.

The man — identified Friday as 39-year-old Dionte Harris — was declared dead at the scene. The woman was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries in critical condition.

No gun was found at the scene, according to KCPD, and no suspect information was released.

Detectives were canvassing the area for witnesses and believe the shooting victims were shot by an unknown suspect. Crime scene investigators were processing the residence in hopes of finding clues to the perpetrator and circumstances of the shootings.

The latest deadly shooting, the 13th in KCMO in 2021, occurred only blocks from a separate homicide that occurred late Wednesday. A man was found shot to death outside of his home near East 75th Terrace and Lydia Avenue.
