A woman has been charged in her 85-year-old mother's death.
Victoria Smith, 59, of Leavenworth, is charged with first-degree premeditated murder.
Investigators said Anna Higgins, Smith's mother, was found dead Sunday afternoon in a home.
Smith appeared in court Tuesday. According to Leavenworth County District Attorney Todd Thompson, Smith asked for a court appointed attorney. She is scheduled to be back in court Friday, July 8.
The Leavenworth Police Department is continuing its investigation.
