KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man is facing charges after he allegedly stole a KCKPD SUV and wrecked it during a chase with police.

Lewayne Mickles, 38, is charged with aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, eluding a police officer, two counts of theft, burglary, robbery, interference with a law enforcement officer, property damage and three drug charges.

Mickles is accused of stealing the KCKPD cruiser as officials conducted a felony traffic stop. Officials say the SUV was later found wrecked and abandoned near 74th and Tauromee.

He's currently being held at the Wyandotte County Jail. Mickles has previously spent time in prison for burglary, fleeing law enforcement and a drug charge.
