A 29-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, man has been charged with assault in connection with a reported serious beating of a 5-year-old boy on Sunday, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peter Baker announced in a news release Monday.
Misipope Taliga has been charged with first-degree domestic assault.
According to the news release, Kansas City police responded to an area near 20th and Topping Avenue in Kansas City on a reported injury of a 5-year-old boy. When they arrived, they found paramedics treating the child. Witnesses told police that Taliga had struck the child in the home. Police found blood inside. Taliga said he saw the child struck by a car outside, then brought him inside.
The child is being treated for injuries at Children's Mercy Hospital.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $200,000.
