KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One man was charged following a deadly Monday shooting that killed 19-year-old Harry Bowers at a Blue Springs McDonald's.

According to the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office, Joseph Mayes, 20, was charged with one count of first degree involuntary manslaughter and one count of armed criminal action.

According to court documents, Mayes, Bowers, a McDonald's manager and her boyfriend were all at the restaurant located at Missouri 7 and Northwest Mock Avenue.

According to the court documents, Mayes and Bowers were hanging out in the men's restroom when Bowers came up behind him and placed his gun to Mayes' stomach, pulling the trigger to hear it click.

According to Mayes, he then pulled out his gun and pointed it at Bowers. He shot the gun, claiming he didn't know it was loaded.

Mayes told police it was "normal" for him and Bowers to point guns at each other.

Mayes allegedly ran out of restaurant saying he had accidentally shot Bowers, then took off running south, away from the McDonald's.

A prosecutor requested a $25,000 bond.
