KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man is charged with shooting a woman as she walked her dogs Tuesday night near Research Medical Center.

Aaron Collier, 23, of Kansas City, Missouri, is charged in Jackson County Court with first degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action and stealing.

A court document stated that the victim was walking her two dogs at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday on Prospect Avenue near the medical center.

She left her dogs run in an open area off Prospect Avenue.

Collier approached the woman, and they began to argue, according to court documents.

The woman and Collier wrestled, and the woman fell to the ground.

A court document stated the woman suffered two gunshot wounds.

She also told police Collier ran over to the woman and knelt down as if he wanted pet one of the woman's dogs, the court document stated.

One of the dogs barked and jumped at Collier and the witness heard two gunshots.

The witness ran across the street and provided first aid before firefighters and police arrived.

Firefighters took the woman across the street to Research Medical Center.

Police found Collier about two hours later.
