KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Missouri, man was charged with murder after a deadly shooting at a south Kansas City apartment, according to court records.

Shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday, police responded to a shooting at an apartment in the 8800 block of Crystal Lane, where Anthony Ford Jr. was found shot to death.

According to a probable cause statement from police, 22-year-old Damon Johnson was seen fighting with the victim by two witnesses.

One witness told police that while he did not witness the confrontation, he heard the pair arguing and then heard two gunshots before Johnson ran out of the apartment.

Another witness said Ford “swung his fist” at Johnson, who ducked and then shot Ford twice, according to the statement.

Johnson did not give a statement to detectives, according to the statement. He was charged with one count each of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

Prosecutors said they had requested a $200,000 cash bond for Johnson.
