Man charged with murder, child endangerment in Overland Park shooting

OLATHE, Kan. — A man has been charged with second-degree murder in an Overland Park, Kansas, shooting that left a man dead and child injured.

Elijah Lewis King is also charged with aggravated battery and aggravated endangerment of a child.

He allegedly shot his 6-year-old daughter in the leg, and killed his girlfriend’s father Tuesday morning at a duplex near 83rd and Switzer.

The victim has been identified as 52-year-old David Slater.

Police told 41 Action News King was visiting his girlfriend with his daughter when a fight between him and Slater broke out, and shots were fired.

Prosecutors have requested a $250,000 bond with the following conditions:

  • House arrest with GPS
  • No use of illegal drugs or controlled substances
  • No alcohol
  • No firearms
  • No contact with victims and/or witnesses
