KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, police officers found a man shot to death Thursday evening in a vacant lot, the third homicide in less than a week in the city.
Officers were sent about 5:30 p.m. to East 20th Street and Monroe Avenue on reports of gunshots, according to a police department news release.
One 911 caller said there was a shooting victim on the ground in a wooded area in a series of vacant lots in the 2000 block of Monroe Avenue.
The victim, an adult male, was declared dead at the scene, according to police.
His name was not released Thursday night.
The shooting likely occurred on East 20th Street between Askew and Monroe avenues. Police said the victim ran from that area to where he was found.
This was the 14th homicide of the year in Kansas City, Missouri.
There were 21 homicides in KCMO at this time last year.
