KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One man is in jail after ordering his large dog to attack police officers and trying to pull a gun from his waistband early Thursday morning in Kansas City, Missouri.

The incident happened around 2:45 a.m. near St. John Avenue and Belmont Boulevard in northeast KCMO.

Officers on patrol spotted the man riding a bike without a light with his dog being yanked along on a leash, according to police.

The officers tried to stop the man, because it's illegal to ride a bike without a light after dark, but the man raced away with the dog in tow.

Officers caught up to the man a few blocks away, but he ignored their commands to get off his bike and instead told his dog to attack the officers.

The dog did as told and bit one officer on the arm as his owner tried to pull a gun from his waistband. Other officers managed to stop him, according to KCPD, without firing any shots.

The officer suffered a minor injury from the dog bite and charges are expected to be filed against the dog's owner.
