Man killed, woman hurt in Independence aggravated assault

UPDATE - Police have identified the victim as Christopher D. Waggoner, 30, of Independence. The investigation revealed his death was caused by a stab wound, and police continue to investigate this as a homicide. The case remains open.
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — A man was killed and a woman was injured in a reported aggravated assault Tuesday morning.
At 5:30 a.m., Independence police officers responded to the 800 block of South Huttig Avenue for an aggravated assault.
When officers arrived, they found a critically injured man outside a residence. He was taken to an area hospital and was later pronounced dead.
Independence police said another victim, a woman, was also found at the scene. She was taken to an area hospital and later released.
The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office is determining the cause of death.
