LENEXA, Kan. — UPDATE 3:15 PM 5/3/2018: A Kansas City, Kansas man is facing charges after he allegedly rammed patrol cars in Lenexa while trying to escape police and was shot.

Taylor Greenhalgh, 20, is charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, two counts of aggravated assault on an officer, fleeing an officer, and felony theft.

A police department spokesman told 41 Action News officers spotted a stolen car at about 7:40 p.m. May 1 near West 87th Street and Mauer Road in Lenexa.

Officers tried to stop the car in a parking lot but as they gave verbal commands for the man to get out of the car, he fled, hitting several occupied Lenexa patrol cars in the process.

One of the officers fired his handgun, striking the suspect.

The suspect then led Lenexa officers on a chase westbound on 87th Street for about 3.5 miles before he surrendered in the area of 81st Street and Woodland.

Officers performed life-saving measures on the suspect until paramedics got to the scene.

He suffered critical injuries.

Three officers were also taken to hospitals to be checked out.

The Johnson County Officer-Involved Shooting Team will investigate.
